Hye Thyme Cafe: We Will Rock You - The Musical

Welcome to the Hy
e Thyme Cafe. Although not all of my recipes are Armenian, the name is a little nod to my Armenian grandmother who is no longer with us. The Hye refers to all things related to her homeland, and she represents all things food-related to me, so the two just seemed to go together. I can't even claim that my Armenian recipes are truly Armenian, since Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Lebanon, Syria, and even Egypt share so many foods that they've all sort of morphed into one over thousands of years.

Whether you like to cook, bake, have never done either, or just like to play with your food...come on in and join me! :)

We Will Rock You - The Musical

Whether you are a fan of Queen, of musical theatre, or maybe Max Headroom [???], be sure to check the schedule to catch We Will Rock You when it hits a theatre near you.  Their North American tour opened in Utica, NY last month, and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend on opening night. For anyone who saw Mama Mia or Movin' Out, you're already acquainted with the concept of the jukebox musical - Queen's music was adapted for use as the score for a fabulous musical [12 years running in the UK].  I very much enjoyed Mama Mia [not so much the movie version], detested Movin' Out [huge Billy Joel fan but have actually blocked it out; most of the audience left during intermission - I'm thinking it was a ballet???], and was blown away by We Will Rock You!  Even the fact that I wasn't familiar with some of the music did nothing to detract from how much I enjoyed it.

We actually left the show already anticipating seeing it again.  It was right up there with Forrest Gump and Moulin Rouge in the ... there was so much going on, what did I miss ... department that you almost feel compelled to see it more than once!

Everything was great, from the cast to costuming and choreography, to the incorporation of digital technology [back to my Max Headroom reference], and the humor couldn't be beat.  It was a very current script, touching on everything form Elvis to Miley Cyrus.  Think of it as a musical cross-over between Max Headroom and The Matrix.

Although there was some adult humor, so you might want to leave the kids home, I strongly suggest seeing it yourself, and a pair of tickets would make a great holiday gift for someone on your list!  Check out the show's schedule below.
